Reversing Brexit now would not help UK economy, says Keir Starmer

1. “Trade has gone down because the deal we have got is not a very good deal,” [Starmer] said.
2. “I think we could move from getting Brexit done, which is all that we have managed at the moment, to making Brexit work. And I do think there is a better deal.
3. “But do I think that going back into years of wrangling, years of uncertainty, is going to help our economy? No, I don’t. I spent many years post-2016 talking to businesses who said to me over and over again, the thing that’s hardest for us is all the uncertainty. That really, for many years, held us back, and I don’t want to go back to that.
4. “But I do think that we can move forward to a better deal, because I do not think this one is working.”
   Starmer insisted he would not revisit the idea even if, in the future, it appeared that trade barriers with the EU were harming growth.
5. “I understand, and will absolutely improve on the deal that we’ve got,” he said. “But let’s just recognise that the low growth in our economy has been going on for 12 years. It preceded Brexit, it preceded Covid and it preceded Ukraine. There is something fundamental about the way our economy works.”

I do, I must say, appreciate points iii & iv, where Starmer interviews himself, framing his questions to suit.

Since I joined this forum some years ago I can recall you routinely jumping to the defence of one Tory after another caught in lies, corruption and inappropriate behaviour.

Multiple examples...Paterson, Gove, Williamson..and of course the master of them all, Johnson whose career was built on a constant stream of lies.Something his defenders never "got" about his demise after "Partygate" was less about what he did as it was the perfect demonstration of his default setting to lie about everything.

For you to harp on about Starmer lying is laughable. And not even arguable. The example you give re Brexit shows that you still don't realise that simply voting "leave" did not do anything to clarify what follows. But then if they HAD specified in detail and honestly what would follow they would never have won, would they?

Oh Rodney your memory like I suppose many other things do you no favours I didn't "defend" Paterson merely said he should be allowed to put his case and in BIG (for you) throw the book at him if he was found to have erred.

As to Gove and Williamson pray give me an example.

As to Johnson should we reconvene after Harriet Harman has finished noting she has already had a problem with the word deliberately?
He certainly ain't no Angel though and has never unlike the lying Starmer portrayed himself as one.


Starmer is a Liar and will "break pledges to get elected" and that is in his own words not mine.

He like you condemned Brexit yet now embraces it and promises to "polish it up" will you be doing the same?

I'm glad Izzard has failed in his attempt. I think the people of Sheffield are better served by a local representative. It's all very well parachuting in a 'name' as the main parties do, but for a celebrity such as Izzard to seek election, I think they should actually serve the community for a while.

As for Duffield, Izzard might have a point if he / she didn't switch to being a man if acting jobs require it.

That one can switch from 'boy mode' to 'girl mode' - as Izzard puts it - simply by changing shoes makes a mockery of those genuinely suffering gender identity problems.

I admire Izzard's stand up routines, and they've done a lot for charity. But I don't think they're a great ambassador for the trans community.
